Midterms - this country's biggest chance to fix our mistakes from years past
Welcome to 2018! It's not a leap year. It's not the year that the computers are going to take over the world. It's not the year of a presidential election. It is, however, the year that we can shape our country to be better for all Americans.
Our country's political realm is filled with dangerous and selfish individuals who are making it harder to get by for everyday American citizens. But American citizens don't have to idle as their rights and liberties are taken away. American citizens don't have to idle as their healthcare systems are getting picked apart by Republican policies. American citizens don't have to idle as the economy benefits only a small portion of the wealthiest 1% of people. American citizens don't have to idle because 2018 is the year midterm elections.
2018 is going to be filled with general elections, primary elections, and special elections. These vary by county, city, and district. It is imperative that Americans get out and vote in all of the elections this year (and other years but baby steps are necessary). Go to www.Vote411.org to find out what elections you will be a part of.
There are a lot of important seats up for grabs that are currently filled with people who don't reflect who their constituents are. These seats include US Senators and Representatives, State representatives, local judges, and country party chairs. Almost all candidates have website where you can read about their positions and be informed. Once your informed, the easiest part is left: voting.
Voting is a two-step process. First, make sure that you are registered to vote. Second, show up at your polling place.
Our country political attitude isn't plagued by intolerance and hatred it's plagued by indifference. The midterms are the time to show up and get engaged with the candidates who you support. The midterms are the time to get up and vote for those who can actually make this country great again. The midterms are the time to rise up and show this country's current government who's boss.
Important dates to remember in Texas:
February 5th: Last day to register as a voter for the primary elections
February 20th: Start of Early Voting in Texas
March 6th: Primary Elections for Congressional and Senate Races, Final election for County-wide positions (e.g. County Party Chair, Precinct Chairs, Judges).
November 6th: General election for Congressional and Senate Races
November 7th: The day we celebrate active civic engagement as we see record highs for voter participation.
Let's make my November 7th dream come true. This is our chance to change - Go Vote!!
